Historians believe that the construction of the Image House occurred in two stages, with the first stage dating back to the reign of King Devanampiyatissa (3rd century BC).
Although some have mistakenly referred to this building as the Relic Chamber of Thuparamaya, this is a misconception. The Image House holds significant historical and religious value, marking an important aspect of the temple complex and its development over time.
